Pete is a dedicated climbing coach with a strong focus on improving climbers' skills and enjoyment. He combines years of personal climbing experience with a deep academic understanding of coaching and performance. Pete holds the Development Coach Award and Climbing Wall Development Instructor Award (CWDI), is Performance Coach Award trained, and is a provider of the BMC FUNdamentals of Climbing Coach Education Workshops.
What sets Pete apart is his Master’s Degree in Elite Performance, completed in 2020. This gave him a unique insight into climbing coaching by observing top coaches across the UK and extensively studying climbing performance and teaching philosophies. His academic contributions include working as a research assistant on Dr Rebecca Williams’ Smart Climbing, designing the syllabus for the Mountain Training Mental Skills Module, and reviewing hundreds of academic papers.
Since beginning his coaching journey in 2015, Pete has worked with climbers of all levels, from total beginners mastering belaying to advanced climbers tackling V8+ grades. His coaching extends across both indoor and outdoor environments, from one-on-one sessions to group lessons. Drawing on his personal experience of honing technical climbing skills at university, Pete focuses on footwork, body movement, and efficiency, tailoring his approach to help every climber reach their potential.
