Charlie was great. He assessed the ability and confidence levels in the group very well, so that everyone in our mixed group left feeling they'd been challenged enough to feel they'd achieved something. I would really recommend Charlie.

Climbing on some of the oldest rock formations in the Highlands provides a great chance to develop your skills in a relaxed, supportive setting. Whether you’re interested in sport climbing, top roping, or trad climbing, the session can be tailored to suit your experience and goals. Small groups ensure plenty of individual attention throughout.
The session starts with an overview of the local rock and climbing safety, followed by a warm-up to get you familiar with the equipment and basic techniques. You’ll then be guided through climbs selected to match your level, ranging from easier routes to more challenging ones if you want to develop skills such as lead climbing.
Hands-on coaching focuses on improving technique, including foot placement, grip, and rope handling. Whether your interest lies in sport climbing, top roping, or traditional climbing, the instructor will adapt the session to meet your needs. There’s plenty of time for practice and building confidence on the rock while keeping safety a top priority.
Towards the end, a cool-down discussion offers a chance to ask questions about climbing ethics, local routes, and gear advice. You’ll also learn about the geology and history of the ancient rocks around Gairloch, adding extra context to your climbing experience.
Gairloch Harbour serves as the meeting point for this climbing session, set in a beautiful coastal village with access to a variety of climbing spots. The nearby cliffs cater to different ability levels and climbing styles, from sport routes to traditional climbs.
The location offers inspiring views of the sea and mountains, creating an enjoyable environment to learn climbing. Easy access and nearby facilities make meeting and getting started hassle-free.
Participants should have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable walking on uneven, rocky terrain. The session welcomes complete beginners as well as those with some climbing experience.
All necessary equipment is provided. Wearing comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for climbing and walking on rocks is recommended.
With over ten years’ experience working outdoors in various sports, the instructor holds several professional qualifications, including mountain leadership and climbing instructor training, ensuring safe and expert guidance.
A master’s degree in Sustainable Mountain Development informs a strong commitment to responsible outdoor practices. This ensures the experience not only builds skills but also promotes respect for the environment and minimises impact.
No prior climbing experience is necessary to join the session. It’s designed to welcome beginners who want to learn the basics, as well as those with some experience who want to improve their skills or try new techniques like lead climbing.
The instructor will tailor the session to your level, providing guidance on safety and technique throughout. Whether you’re new to climbing or looking to develop, the pace and challenges will suit your abilities.
All essential climbing equipment, including harnesses, helmets, ropes, and climbing shoes, will be provided as part of the session. This means you don’t need to worry about sourcing or buying gear beforehand.
It’s best to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that allows freedom of movement. Sturdy footwear suitable for walking on uneven, rocky terrain is also recommended for getting to and from the climbing spots safely.
Climbing requires a moderate level of fitness, especially in terms of balance, coordination, and some upper body strength. The session includes climbs that match your level, so intensity can be adjusted to your comfort and fitness.
You should be comfortable walking over uneven ground to reach climbing locations. If you have any health concerns, it’s a good idea to discuss them before booking to ensure the activity suits your capabilities.
Safety is a priority throughout the session. You’ll receive a thorough safety briefing before starting, and the instructor will explain all equipment and climbing techniques clearly.
The session follows established safety standards with proper use of ropes, helmets, and harnesses. Constant supervision means risks are managed effectively, allowing you to climb with confidence.
Children aged 8 and above are welcome to participate, provided they have a reasonable level of fitness and can follow safety instructions. The small group size ensures the instructor can give individual attention to younger climbers.
Parents or guardians should consider their child’s confidence with heights and physical ability before booking. The instructor will adapt the session to keep it fun and safe for all ages.
Outdoor climbing depends heavily on weather conditions for safety. If poor weather such as heavy rain or strong winds makes climbing unsafe, the session may be postponed or rescheduled.
The instructor will assess conditions on the day and communicate any changes promptly. In some cases, alternative indoor activities or discussions may be offered, depending on availability.
