Discover the scenic canals of London with your SUP skills from the heart of the city – Paddington Basin. Our paddleboarding hire is set up for those with prior paddleboarding experience, or those who have confidently completed a session with us and are eager to explore the waterways independently.

Embarking on a SUP Rental allows you to unveil the beauty of Paddington Basin, Regents Canal and the Grand Union Canal at a pace that suits you. While our team will equip you with all the necessary gear, the rest of the adventure is yours.

Our urban location, nestled near Paddington Station and at the juncture of the Regents Canal and the Grand Union Canal, is a perfect starting point for your journey.

Paddington Basin, located in central London, offers a unique and scenic route for paddleboarding along the Regents Canal and the Grand Union Canal. Despite being in the city center, you can encounter various wildlife species, contributing to a peaceful and serene environment. Post-paddleboarding, the area invites you to explore an array of cafes, shops, and restaurants.  With its easy access near Paddington Station, it makes for a convenient spot for an urban paddleboarding adventure.

Why Choose Us?

With our roots dating back to 2011, we have pioneered introducing urban SUP experiences on the River Thames and London’s canals. Our diverse team of seasoned coaches is dedicated to crafting unforgettable experiences for paddlers from all backgrounds.

At our core, we’re dedicated to spreading awareness about the marine environment and its prevailing threats, notably plastic pollution. We passionately urge all paddlers to partake in safeguarding our precious waterways.

Please Note: SUP rental requires prior SUP experience. Safety is paramount, and we expect you to paddle independently and navigate safely amongst canal traffic. If you doubt your skill level, we recommend considering one of our coach-led trips which you can find at the bottom of this page.

Important: Please be aware that the Maida Hill tunnel on the Regent’s Canal is strictly regulated and not accessible for independent paddling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sorry, no. SUP rental is only for those with SUP experience. For safety, you need to be confident to paddle independently and manoeuvre safely around canal traffic. If you’re unsure of your ability, consider joining one of our coach-led trips which you can find at the bottom of this page. You can hire our kayaks or canoes without any experience – you can also find them at the bottom of this page!

We strongly recommend cycling or arriving by foot! These are the best options for the environment and we are easy to access in this way.

Paddington Basin is easy to access by public transport, on foot or bike. We are right by the Rolling Bridge.

Your travel options are:

  • Train: Paddington Station is only a few minutes walk from the Basin. The nearest London Underground stations are Edgware Road and Paddington, the latter also being served by National Rail. You can check train times and destinations on the National Rail Enquiries website.  From the main station facing the canal entrance, turn right and follow the canal. Cross the first bridge and continue along the canal heading east. You’ll see our canoes and SUP storage units on your left by the Rolling Bridge.
  • Bus: There a a number of buses going to and from Paddington. For routes and times please visit the Transport for London website.
  • Cycling: The best way to reach Paddington is by bike and there is secure parking right next to the barge.
  • Parking: Street parking may be available on North Wharf Road.

You will receive a booking confirmation and be able to speak to the centre via the online chat.

Before heading out for your SUP session, we recommend you check the weather forecast and dress accordingly, keeping potential wind and rain factors in mind.

Pack These Essentials:

  • Water-appropriate footwear (more details below)
  • Spare clothes and a towel (for post-fall dry-offs or showers)
  • Sun protection items like sunscreen and a sun hat
  • A retainer for your glasses
  • A refillable water bottle
  • A dry bag and waterproof phone case if you plan on bringing items onto the water (we don’t provide dry bags)

What to Wear:

  • For Warmer Days:
    • Choose quick-drying sportswear or gym wear – tops of any sleeve length, leggings, shorts, or quick-drying trousers (avoid denim and heavy cotton as they retain moisture and can make you feel cold)
    • Neoprene water shoes are ideal for footwear, but if unavailable, consider flat-sole trainers, Converse, or hiking sandals with a heel strap – they should stay securely on your feet and be okay to get wet. We advise against flip-flops and barefoot paddling due to potential risks
    • A lightweight windproof/waterproof jacket or an extra top in case you feel cold
    • A spare jumper or throw-on top for post-exercise warmth
  • For Colder Days:
    • A light, windproof/waterproof jacket
    • A thermal top
    • We highly recommend wearing light thermals or wetsuits, with a woolly hat for added warmth (we provide a selection of wetsuits for borrowing). Wearing a bigger wetsuit with a tight-fitting layer underneath, such as a baselayer and leggings, can also be beneficial
    • Footwear is crucial during colder weather – we recommend neoprene shoes or boots, and neoprene socks for very cold conditions
    • Always bring spare clothes and a warm jumper or cosy top for post-exercise warmth

We do not have lockers on site but personal belongings in a bag/rucksack can be left in the equipment cages on site. Make sure you do not leave loose items – it’s best to put them in one or two bags. Shoes can be left on site too. We have never had anything go missing, but please avoid bringing valuables (or take them in a drybag) as the cages are shared by staff and all customers.

We highly recommend cycling to the site. There are cycle stands nearby. Bring a lock with you. Folded Brompton bikes can be left in the equipment cages.
