This four day adventure leaves Cusco for Abra Malaga, where a long downhill bike run drops toward Santa Maria and an afternoon rafting block. Day two hikes jungle trails and Inca paths toward Santa Teresa with time at Cocalmayo hot springs, then day three adds zip lines and the walk into Aguas Calientes.
Day four is for Machu Picchu: an early guided citadel visit, optional mountain tickets if arranged, then return toward Cusco by road or by train depending on the option selected for your visit. Pack for cold high passes and warmer valley days later in the week.
The route mixes biking, rafting, hiking and zip lines so the journey to Machu Picchu feels varied rather than a single long trail. Guides keep early starts organised and explain each activity clearly before you begin.
Overnight towns and an Aguas Calientes hotel night give proper resets before the citadel day, while return options let you match time and energy after the visit.
Hotel pickup around 06:00 takes you through the Sacred Valley with a stop in Ollantaytambo before climbing to Abra Malaga around 4350m. After a bike briefing and kit check, ride a long downhill toward Huamanmarca for lunch and a short ruin stop.
Continue toward Santa Maria for about one and a half hours of whitewater rafting in the afternoon, then shower, rest and dinner in town. Pack for cold air at the pass and warmer valley temperatures by evening.
After breakfast around 06:00, hike from Santa Maria onto original Inca trail sections through jungle plantations toward Quellomayo for lunch. Continue along the Vilcanota River toward Cocalmayo hot springs for a soak before finishing into Santa Teresa.
Overnight is in a hostel with dinner in a local restaurant. A short minivan option may be available for the final hop from the hot springs if you prefer not to walk that last stretch.
Breakfast around 07:00 leads into a zip line morning on high cables before lunch near Hidroelectrica. In the afternoon, walk about two hours beside the Urubamba River into Aguas Calientes.
Check into your lodging, rest and prepare for an early Machu Picchu morning. Optional hot springs in town are available if energy remains.
Rise early for the approach to Machu Picchu and a guided tour of the citadel covering temples, terraces and the wider site story. Optional Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain climbs run only if you arranged tickets in advance for the timed slots.
Return toward Cusco by road via Hidroelectrica, or by train if that option is on your visit. Confirm departure timing so you leave the site with enough margin for your chosen return.
The trek starts with hotel pickup in Cusco around 06:00. Choose a central hotel when you can, and confirm the exact address so the morning route is clear.
Be ready in the lobby with your daypack and passport. Further transfers are handled within the itinerary after pickup.
This is a moderate multi day itinerary with downhill biking, rafting, hiking and zip lines. Good fitness and comfort with mixed adventure sports help more than technical climbing skills.
Day one reaches a high pass before a long descent. Ask the team if you are unsure about altitude, cycling confidence or river comfort.
Pickup is from your hotel in Cusco around 06:00 on day one. Stay in a central hotel when possible and confirm the address when you confirm your visit.
Be in the lobby ready with your daypack and passport. The first drive heads through the Sacred Valley toward Abra Malaga.
Expect downhill mountain biking, whitewater rafting, jungle hiking, zip lines and a guided Machu Picchu visit across the four days. Exact activity order follows the day by day itinerary.
Optional extras such as return by train or mountain climb tickets are typically separate unless clearly included for your visit.
Nights are in town accommodations in Santa Maria and Santa Teresa, then a hotel style night in Aguas Calientes before the citadel visit.
Expect simple but practical lodging with showers after active days. Pack light and keep valuables to a minimum on the trail.
Day four includes the guided citadel visit logistics as described for this product. Extra mountain climbs need separate tickets if offered.
Return to Cusco is by road or train depending on the option selected. Confirm which return method is on your visit before you travel.
Bring your original passport, hiking shoes, sun and insect protection, layers, swimsuit, water bottle, snacks, toiletries and cash in soles.
A daypack for water, camera, rain gear and valuables is essential on every active day.
No fixed minimum age is published. The itinerary suits travellers who can handle mixed adventure days and early starts.
Ask the team before travel for younger travellers or anyone unsure about rafting, biking or zip lines.
Mountain and jungle weather can change timing, yet the itinerary rarely stops for ordinary conditions. Safety still comes first on bike, river and aerial sections.
If a change is needed, the team will be in touch. Keep messages open the evening before each early start.
Road return is the standard lower cost option after Machu Picchu. A train return is commonly offered as an optional extra with later departure times.
Confirm which return is on your visit so you know how much time you have at the citadel.
Hotel pickup in Cusco, guided multi activity days, overnight stays as described and a guided Machu Picchu visit form the core package.
Personal insurance, tips, optional train return and some mountain tickets are typically separate unless clearly included.
