Gain a clear understanding of how your scuba equipment works and how to keep it in excellent condition. This practical course focuses on assembling gear correctly, identifying potential problems, and maintaining your setup for safe, comfortable dives. It’s ideal for divers looking to feel more confident and independent when handling their own kit.
Your training begins with a guided session on the essential parts of scuba equipment. You’ll explore how each component fits together, what checks to carry out before every dive, and how to recognise common problems that could affect performance. Instructors take time to explain how small details—like hose routing or BCD adjustment—can make a noticeable difference to safety and comfort underwater.
The second half of the course moves into the water, where you’ll assemble and test your equipment under supervision. This session gives you a chance to feel how properly configured gear behaves in real conditions. Afterward, you’ll learn post-dive maintenance techniques, including rinsing, drying, and storage methods to extend the life of your setup. By the end, you’ll have the confidence to prepare, maintain, and care for your own gear with ease.
The course takes place in Gosforth, within a dedicated dive training facility equipped for both classroom and confined water instruction. It provides a relaxed, well-structured environment that encourages hands-on learning at your own pace.
Situated close to the North Sea coast and several dive retailers, Gosforth offers easy access to professional servicing workshops. This makes it a great base for divers who want to understand more about equipment performance both in and out of the water.
Anyone with an entry-level scuba certification or equivalent can enrol. It’s particularly helpful for new divers who want to feel more comfortable managing their kit and preparing for future courses. The minimum age is 10, and participants should be able to take part in basic pool sessions.
Prior experience with equipment setup isn’t required. Instructors will explain each concept clearly, ensuring that even those with limited experience feel supported and confident throughout the course.
Training here is designed around practical experience and personal guidance rather than classroom lectures. Each student is encouraged to handle and test their equipment throughout the course, building a deeper understanding through doing, not just listening.
Small group sizes and approachable instructors ensure you receive plenty of individual support. Every session is focused on improving your comfort and safety underwater, helping you get the best out of your gear on every future dive.
