Where Are The Best Kitesurfing Spots Around The World?

Kitesurfing is booming. More and more places around the world you see people out having a blast. But with so many excellent spots around the world, it can be hard to decide where to go! Lets break down some of the most popular, and most up and coming locations to check out.

Here are some of the best places in the world to go kitesurfing:

Cape Town, South Africa

With year-round sea breezes and huge swells, Cape Town offers some serious kiting potential! The water is not always warm here so bring your wetsuit (I go 7mm and I don’t care who’s judging). Weirdly, it is cooler in summer and warmer in winter due to the change in the ocean currents. There are lots of beaches with plenty of space for everyone – from beginners just getting comfortable with their kitework to experienced kiters looking for bigger waves and more difficult manoeuvres.

The prime season for kitesurfing in Cape Town is during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer months, from October to March.

Popular spots include:

  • Bloubergstrand: Perhaps the most iconic kitesurfing spot in Cape Town
  • Langebaan: Just an hour’s drive from Cape Town, Langebaan is a lagoon with turquoise waters
  • Big Bay: Situated between Bloubergstrand and Melkbosstrand, Big Bay is a crowd favorite

Mui Ne Beach, Vietnam

Mui Ne has been hailed as one of Southeast Asia’s premier kiteboarding destinations due to its consistent year-round wind speed and warm weather conditions. The shallow waters make this spot perfect for those just starting out or looking to brush up on their basics before moving onto bigger challenges elsewhere! And once you’ve had enough time on the water, there is also plenty left to explore ashore including unique markets and delicious local cuisine (if you ignore the strangely strong russion influence – potato salad anyone?). There are also lots of schools and equipment rental places along the main stretch of beach.

  • Great Location: Mui Ne Bay is the hub, with consistent winds making it ideal for kitesurfing. The main beach along with smaller spots like Malibu Beach offer excellent conditions.
  • Best Time to Visit: November to March, when the northeast monsoon brings steady wind conditions.
