Dry suit diving is the ideal way to dive in cold-water conditions while staying warm and comfortable. This specialty program allows you to explore colder dive sites, including Arctic regions, or enjoy longer dive days without the hassle of a wetsuit. By becoming a certified dry suit diver, you'll gain the skills and confidence needed to dive in temperatures that would otherwise be challenging.
The SSI Dry Suit Diving specialty course includes both academic sessions and practical dives, designed to ensure you have all the knowledge and experience necessary for cold-water diving. The academic component consists of six lessons where you'll learn about the unique characteristics of dry suits, how they keep you warm, and the equipment needed to dive with them. You’ll also cover how to troubleshoot and handle emergencies specific to dry suit diving.
After the classroom portion, you’ll move to the pool or confined water for a session that focuses on getting comfortable with dry suit diving in a controlled environment. This will allow you to practice using the equipment and refine your buoyancy skills. Finally, you’ll complete two open-water dives, where you'll put everything you've learned into practice in real-world conditions. These dives will be conducted under the supervision of your instructor, giving you the chance to dive safely in colder waters, gaining confidence and skills with each dive.
