Board a fast boat from South Pier in Lowestoft for a 1.5-hour seal watching adventure at Scroby Sands, home to the UK’s largest grey seal colony. Passengers can see seals basking on sandbanks or swimming near the boat while enjoying high-speed coastal cruising. Families and wildlife enthusiasts will find plenty of photo opportunities along the Norfolk and Suffolk coastline.
The adventure begins at Heritage Quay South Pier where the crew fits lifejackets and provides a safety briefing. After leaving the pier, the boat passes through the yacht basin and out to sea at around 20 knots, offering scenic views of Lowestoft, Gorleston, and Great Yarmouth from a new perspective.
Heading towards Scroby Sands, the boat slows near the seal colony to avoid disturbing the animals. If conditions allow, the crew drops anchor and switches off the engine, giving passengers time to listen to the seals’ vocalisations and observe their playful behaviour. Wildlife photographers will find this the perfect moment to capture memorable images.
The return journey takes the boat back along the coast towards Lowestoft Harbour. Passengers can enjoy final coastal views and relax while crew members share insights about local marine life and the wind farm near the sands, making the trip both informative and engaging.

Yes, you are likely to get wet, particularly on sea-based trips where waves and spray are common. Even on warm days, wind chill can make conditions feel colder than expected, so it’s important to wear layers and bring waterproofs. Hats, gloves, and extra clothing are also recommended for longer trips or breezy conditions.
Crew members will provide lifejackets or other protective gear as required, and they will give guidance on what to wear to ensure you remain safe and comfortable throughout the experience.
Trips operate in a wide range of weather conditions, but if wave heights reach 1.5 metres or more, it becomes unsafe and uncomfortable, and trips will be cancelled. In these cases, you will be offered a full refund or the option to rebook on another date. Certain coastal trips may offer a partial alternative route with a partial refund if conditions prevent the standard route from being run safely.
Weather cancellations are communicated as soon as a decision is made, and staff always prioritise passenger safety. Harbour and river trips are generally able to run in most weather, but safety remains the top priority.
Yes, lifejackets are provided for all passengers and it is a mandatory safety requirement to wear them during the trip. Lifejackets are available in a range of sizes, including special sizes for children, and staff will ensure they are fitted correctly.
Crew members will demonstrate how to use the lifejackets safely in the unlikely event of an emergency. All passengers must follow instructions to ensure safety throughout the trip.
The boats travel at a maximum of 25 knots (around 30 mph) when at sea, weather permitting. Within harbours and rivers, speed is reduced according to local limits, typically between 3–6 mph. Crew members will adjust speed when near wildlife, other boats, or when conditions require a slower pace.
Passengers can expect a balance of excitement and safety, with speeds designed to provide an enjoyable ride while respecting all regulations.
Yes, photography and videography are welcome, and there are plenty of opportunities to capture the experience. Passengers should secure cameras and phones, particularly when the boat is moving, to avoid equipment loss or damage.
Staff may advise when it is safest to take pictures, and you are asked to respect wildlife and other passengers while taking photographs.
All passengers must be at least four years old (minimum weight 15kg) to take part. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. There is no maximum age, but participants must be able to brace themselves and follow safety instructions during turns, impacts, and boarding.

Babies and toddlers under four years old or under 15kg cannot participate. Each passenger must have their own seat and be able to use handholds safely.
Dogs are allowed on board with prior arrangement and require a dog buoyancy aid, with a small fee applied. Staff will advise on any restrictions to maintain comfort and safety for all passengers.
Pregnant individuals are not permitted due to safety regulations. Passengers under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed on board.
Crew members ensure that all safety measures are explained and enforced for the wellbeing of all passengers.

Planning ahead is recommended to ensure any mobility needs are addressed, and staff are happy to discuss individual requirements before your arrival.
During the trip, the boat slows and often drops anchor near the Scroby Sands sandbanks, allowing passengers to observe seals in their natural habitat without disturbing them. Grey seals and harbour seals may be seen basking on the sand or swimming alongside the boat. Seals are naturally curious and may approach the vessel, giving guests opportunities to witness playful behaviour and interact visually with these amazing animals.
Seals gather in large numbers depending on the tide, and sightings are frequent throughout the year. Passengers can expect to see a variety of behaviours, from seals resting on the sandbanks at low tide to diving, swimming, and socialising at high tide. Crew members provide commentary on the seals’ habits, enhancing understanding and enjoyment of the experience.
