Try kayaking for the first time on this 1.5-hour taster session at Tenby South Beach. Designed for complete beginners, it provides a simple and supported introduction to paddling with qualified instruction throughout. The focus is on building confidence, learning the basics and enjoying time on the water in a sheltered coastal setting.
You’ll begin by meeting your instructor on the beach and being fitted with all the equipment needed for the session. After a short safety briefing, you’ll be introduced to the basic techniques required to control and move the kayak before heading onto the water.
Once on the sea, your instructor will guide you step by step through paddling, balance and steering while you explore the sheltered bay. The pace is relaxed, giving you time to get used to the kayak and build confidence as you go.
Later in the session, you may have the opportunity to practise turning skills or try a simple self-rescue technique, depending on how comfortable you feel. You can also continue paddling and enjoying the experience at your own pace.
Tenby South Beach is a wide sandy bay with sheltered waters that are well suited to beginners. The launch area is straightforward and provides plenty of space close to shore for learning and practising skills safely.
The conditions here are generally calmer than more exposed coastline, making it a reliable location for introductory sessions. If conditions change, an alternative sheltered location may be used, with notice given in advance where possible.
No previous kayaking experience is required for this session. It is designed specifically for beginners who want a first introduction to paddling in a supported environment.
Participants should be comfortable in the water and able to take part in a light physical activity lasting around 1.5 hours. Basic mobility is needed for getting in and out of the kayak from the shoreline.
This session is delivered by qualified instructors with recognised paddlesport training and experience teaching beginners in coastal environments. Instruction is kept clear and practical, with a focus on helping you feel comfortable from the start.
All equipment is chosen for stability and ease of use, making it suitable for first-time paddlers. Sessions are run in controlled conditions with safety and enjoyment prioritised throughout.
