What is the DofE?
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) is a structured youth programme for ages 14 to 24, with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Participants complete volunteering, physical, skills and expedition sections. Licensed Organisations and Approved Activity Providers run programmes in schools, youth groups and outdoor centres across the UK.
DofE expedition training builds navigation, campcraft and teamwork. Adult volunteers become Expedition Supervisors and Assessors through organisation-specific approval, not a single national licence card. Technical outdoor skills and safeguarding sit alongside DofE rules on remote supervision.

Choosing a course
Expedition Supervisor Training Course (ESTC) covers DofE expedition knowledge and remote supervision. Your Licensed Organisation still approves you individually after reviewing navigation, first aid and safeguarding. Leave a comment when you book if you need ESTC dates aligned to your LO induction.
Gold expeditions need practice journeys before qualifying. Bronze teams need training signed off before they head out. Supervisors carry flexible plans, not a fixed script for every moorland day.
Official standards
Programme rules, expedition conditions and supervisor guidance are published by The Duke of Edinburgh's Award at dofe.org. This overview is a guide for booking on adventuro. Your Licensed Organisation confirms approval steps and expedition roles when you volunteer.
