### Highlights
A two-day mountain adventure in the Torridon range designed for those keen to experience the Highlands in winter. With both walking and mountaineering options, this trip caters to a range of experience levels while offering instruction along the way. Whether you're brushing up on your skills or trying winter walking for the first time, you'll make the most of your weekend with expert local guides. The first day kicks off early with a full mountain day tailored to your chosen format. For those doing winter hillwalking, routes might include summits such as Spidean a’ Choire Leith or Beinn Alligin, depending on conditions. If you’ve opted for mountaineering, expect roped climbs and grade I or II winter routes like the Liathach traverse or the Northern Pinnacles of Mullach an Rathain. Each day includes instruction and guidance, with safety being a core focus throughout. Sunday follows a similar pattern, with another full mountain outing before departure. The short format doesn't compromise on experience – routes are carefully selected to give a full Highland winter outing. All technical equipment is included, and local transport is covered to and from the trailheads. Fully Inclusive Option This version includes three nights at a locally run guest house in Applecross, along with all meals from breakfast through to dinner. Your guide will meet you on Friday night, allowing time to go over kit and plans. Mornings start with breakfast and a briefing before heading out into the mountains. Evenings are relaxed, with freshly prepared meals and the chance to reflect on the day in comfort. Both days on the hill follow the same structure as the Trip Only option, but the addition of catered accommodation means you can fully focus on your time outdoors without the logistics. Whether you're walking to Torridon summits or climbing ridgelines with an axe and rope, this trip offers a balance of adventure and ease. Location Lochcarron is a small Highland v…

## FAQs

### What is the difference between the Hillwalking and Mountaineering options?

The Hillwalking option focuses on reaching summits using well-established walking routes. It’s suitable for those who have some experience in mountain walking but may not have used technical equipment like crampons or ice axes before. You’ll still be tackling big winter mountains, but without ropes or climbing. The Mountaineering version involves more technical ground, including roped sections, grade I–II winter climbs, and steeper terrain with exposure. This is aimed at those who are comfortable on scrambly ground in summer and want to learn or consolidate skills for moving safely in winter conditions. Both formats run on the same weekend, so you can choose which best fits your goals.

### Do I need previous winter experience to take part?

Not necessarily. For the Hillwalking option, previous winter experience is helpful but not essential. The guides include winter skills training as part of the weekend, which will cover the basics like using crampons, ice axe use, and safe movement in snow-covered terrain. For the Mountaineering option, you should already be confident walking in winter , or have some good summer experience, and have good fitness. If you’re unsure which is more suitable, we recommend contacting us via the adventuro chat below so we can help match you to the right format.

### What should I bring with me?

A full kit list is provided upon booking, but you’ll need standard winter hillwalking gear including waterproofs, a rucksack, warm layers, gloves, hat, and suitable boots. Your boots must be crampon-compatible (B1 or B2 rated). If you’re unsure whether your boots are suitable, get in touch with us. All technical equipment like crampons, ice axes, helmets and harnesses is provided at no extra cost. If you already own your own equipment and would prefer to use it, just let the team know in advance so they can ensure it’s appropriate for the conditions and plan.

### What is included in the Fully Inclusive package?

If you opt for the Fully Inclusive package, everything is taken care of. You’ll stay for three nights in a guest house in Lochcarron, with home-cooked meals each day including breakfast, packed lunches for the hills, and a warm dinner on your return. In addition to accommodation and meals, you’ll have two full days in the mountains with a qualified guide, all necessary technical kit, and local transport included. It’s a great option if you want to focus entirely on the activity without the hassle of planning meals or logistics.

### Can I stay elsewhere and just join for the activity days?

Yes, that’s exactly what the Trip Only option is for. You’re responsible for arranging your own accommodation and meals, but we still provide guiding, equipment, and local transport during the activity days. This offers more flexibility and often suits those travelling in campervans or booking their own places to stay. There are several excellent B&Bs and self-catering cottages in Lochcarron, all within walking distance of the meeting point each morning. Recommendations are provided on booking, or contact us via the adventuro chat below if you’d like help choosing somewhere nearby.

### How difficult are the mountain routes?

The difficulty depends on which format you choose. In winter, even hillwalking requires good fitness and the ability to walk for several hours over steep, often snowy terrain. Expect to be out for most of the day and carry a full day pack with warm layers and food. The Mountaineering routes involve more exposed sections with ropework and some climbing moves, though nothing beyond Grade II. You should already be confident on summer scrambles and prepared to move on mixed ground in crampons. Routes are chosen based on conditions and the group’s ability.
