With expert tuition and high-quality equipment, this introduction covers everything from setup and control to those first exciting lifts out of the water. You'll learn how to set up the foil, position your wing, and understand the key movements needed for a smooth take-off. The instructor will guide you through the mechanics of lifting onto the foil, controlling power, and maintaining stability. Once you're confident with the theory, it's time to hit the water. Starting with controlled movements, you'll practise engaging the foil and feeling how it responds to shifts in weight and power. The goal is to experience your first successful flights, with guidance to refine your technique and extend your time foiling. Equipment will be shared between a maximum of four riders, ensuring plenty of time to develop confidence before progressing to independent sessions. Location The session takes place in Portland, Dorset, DT5 1SA. This location provides ideal conditions for learning to foil, with consistent wind and accessible waters that make it easier to focus on technique. The centre is purpose-built for watersports, offering excellent facilities including changing rooms, showers, and parking. Prerequisites To take part, you must have completed a WingSurf taster session, either at this centre or another, and be comfortable making progress upwind, controlling the wing’s power, and turning the board. ## FAQs

### What experience do I need to take part in this session?

You must have completed a WingSurf taster or introductory session, either with us or another centre. You should be able to turn your board, control the power in the wing, and make progress upwind. This foundation will help you transition smoothly to foiling. Please see our other sessions below for information on WingSurf tasters.

### What will I learn during the session?

The session covers everything needed for your first steps into foiling. You'll start on land with an introduction to the equipment, including setup, handling, and how the foil works. On the water, you'll learn how to balance, engage the foil, and control lift-off. By the end of the session, you should be able to complete short, controlled flights with a better understanding of how to develop your skills further.

### Do I need to bring my own wetsuit or other gear?

No, all necessary equipment is included in the session. We provide wetsuits, impact vests, helmets, and the full foiling setup. If you have your own wetsuit and would prefer to use it, you're welcome to bring it along. We do recommend bringing swimwear to wear underneath and a towel for after the session.

### What happens if the weather conditions aren’t suitable?

We always aim to run sessions as scheduled, but if conditions aren’t suitable—such as if the wind is too light or too strong—we will reschedule or offer an alternative session. If conditions allow, we may adjust the focus of the session to maximise learning time. If a session is cancelled due to the weather and you cannot attend a rescheduled date, we will offer a refund or credit for a future booking.

### How much time will I actually spend on the water?

The session lasts three hours in total, with a mix of land-based and water-based training. The initial part of the session will focus on understanding the equipment and technique on land. Once on the water, riders will take turns using the foil equipment, ensuring everyone gets a good amount of time practising and learning.

### Is this session suitable for younger riders?

The minimum age for this session is 13, as younger riders often require additional coaching. If you’re looking to book for a younger participant, private tuition is available and may be a better option for focused, individual learning. Feel free to contact us via the adventuro chat below to discuss the best approach for younger riders.
