This guided hike takes you along lakeside paths, through woodlands, and over rolling fells, offering a rewarding challenge with incredible views. The route includes highlights such as the 65ft Aira Force waterfall and the charming villages of Pooley Bridge and Glenridding. The terrain varies between well-maintained footpaths, grassy trails, and sections of rocky ascents and descents. Expect to be on your feet for most of the day, covering long stretches that require endurance and steady pacing. One of the main highlights of the route is Aira Force, a spectacular 65ft waterfall surrounded by lush woodland. The trail continues to Pooley Bridge, a great spot for a short break before tackling the more challenging sections. From here, the route winds back along the eastern shore, offering incredible views across Ullswater before arriving back in Glenridding. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to take in the scenery, spot wildlife, and enjoy the sense of achievement that comes with completing this long-distance hike. Location Ullswater is the second-largest lake in the Lake District and is often described as one of the most scenic. The surrounding fells, quiet woodlands, and charming villages make it a perfect setting for a day-long hike. The Ullswater Way follows a circular route around the lake, connecting Glenridding, Pooley Bridge, Howtown, and Aira Force. The meeting point for the hike is the Tourist Information Car Park in Glenridding, where there are public toilets and parking available. Prerequisites This hike is best suited for those with a good level of fitness, as the distance and terrain can be demanding. You should be comfortable walking up to 15 miles in a day and be prepared for uneven ground and some steep ascents. If you have any medical conditions, please inform your guide beforehand. ## FAQs

### Can individuals attend alone?

Yes! The majority of participants join as solo hikers and adventurers. The experiences are designed to bring like-minded people together, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Whether it’s a first-time outdoor activity or a new challenge, there’s no need to feel apprehensive—everyone is there to enjoy the experience.

### Is there an age limit?

There is no upper age limit, as long as participants are physically able to take part safely. Some challenge walks and day experiences do allow under-18s, but they must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian, as there is no AALA Licence held. For enquiries about under-18 participation, please get in touch via the adventuro chat below. They'll be happy to help!

### What happens if the weather is bad?

Weather conditions are closely monitored using mountain-specific forecasts. If dangerous conditions are predicted, updates will be provided by 4pm the day before the event, or as early as possible within 24 hours. As the Lake District’s weather can change rapidly, events will still proceed in rain. If conditions worsen on the day, the guide may adjust the route or, if necessary, cancel the event. In the case of cancellation, an alternative date will be offered.

### What level of fitness is required?

A basic level of fitness is needed to manage being on foot for over six hours across potentially uneven terrain. Many participants book a guide due to limited hillwalking experience, so there is no expectation to be highly hill-fit. Before taking part, a medical waiver must be completed to acknowledge the risks associated with outdoor activities.

### Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are permitted on some hikes, provided they are well-behaved and kept on a lead due to livestock in the area. For information on dog-friendly routes, please get in touch via the adventuro chat below.

### What kit do I need?

You'll need to bring some essential kit to ensure you're comfortable and prepared. Compulsory items include a waterproof jacket and trousers, walking boots with suitable socks, a rucksack, warm layers, a fleece or jumper, and a hat and gloves (waterproof ones are best). You'll also need to bring food, plenty of fluids, a mobile phone, and any personal medication. Recommended extras include walking poles, sun cream, midge spray, gaiters, and a sit mat for added comfort.

### Are there any toilet facilities along the route?

There are public toilets at the start point in Glenridding, as well as at Pooley Bridge and Aira Force. However, we cannot guarantee they will be open on the day, so it’s best to be prepared. If nature calls along the way, we follow Leave No Trace principles, so bring biodegradable tissues and be mindful of the environment.

### How difficult is the route, and what type of terrain will we be covering?

This is a challenging long-distance hike with a variety of terrains. You’ll be walking on gravel paths, grassy trails, woodland tracks, and some rocky sections. There are steep inclines and descents in places, requiring good footing and stamina. The hike is rated as hard due to the length and elevation gain, so be prepared for a full day on your feet.
