### Highlights
Take on a classic Lake District challenge with two demanding yet rewarding routes. Whether tackling the Greater Grisedale Horseshoe or the Glenridding Circuit, both options offer a mix of steep climbs, exposed ridges, and rolling paths across some of the area's most well-known Wainwrights. These hikes are perfect for those wanting to push themselves while taking in the incredible landscapes that make this part of the UK so special. Key Details Duration : 6-10 hours (depending on route) Distance : 16km-21km (10-13.2 miles) Difficulty : Intermediate to hard Start Time : 7:30am or 8am (depending on route) Minimum Group Size : 3 participants What to Expect Route One: The Greater Grisedale Horseshoe This is a full-day challenge covering 21km with around 1500m of ascent, taking in eight Wainwrights: Birkhouse Moor, Helvellyn, Nethermost Pike, Dollywaggon Pike, Seat Sandal, St Sunday Crag, Birks, and Arnison Crag. The hike includes a grade 1 traverse of Striding Edge, where you'll navigate an exposed ridge with some hands-on scrambling. From sharp ridgelines to quieter valley paths, this route provides a mix of technical sections, steep climbs, and rewarding descents. Expect a tough but memorable day on the fells, finishing with a well-earned sense of achievement. Route Two: The Glenridding Circuit A slightly shorter, easier, but still demanding option. This 16km route with 1240m of ascent takes in Glenridding Dodd, Sheffield Pike, Hart Side, Raise, White Side, and Catstye Cam. It includes a grade 1 traverse of Swirral Edge, another classic ridge scramble, offering an exciting challenge with incredible views. There are steep climbs throughout the day, but also moments of respite on more gradual trails. Ideal for those looking for a solid hike with technical sections without committing to the longer distance of Route One. Location Both routes start and finish in Glenridding, a well-known village on the shores of Ullswater. This area is a popular base for walkers tackling Helvellyn and the surrounding fells, with excellent access to some of the most famous trails in the Lake District. Glenridding is easily reachable by road and public transport, with a range of local cafés and pubs to visit after a long day on the fells. Parking is available for a small fee, with payment options including cash, card, and mobile apps. The meeting point details will be provided upon booking, making it simple to find your starting location. Prerequisites Participants should have a go…

## FAQs

### Can individuals attend alone?

Yes! The majority of participants join as solo hikers and adventurers. The experiences are designed to bring like-minded people together, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Whether it’s a first-time outdoor activity or a new challenge, there’s no need to feel apprehensive—everyone is there to enjoy the experience.

### Is there an age limit?

There is no upper age limit, as long as participants are physically able to take part safely. Some challenge walks and day experiences do allow under-18s, but they must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian, as there is no AALA Licence held. For enquiries about under-18 participation, please get in touch via the adventuro chat below. They'll be happy to help!

### What happens if the weather is bad?

Weather conditions are closely monitored using mountain-specific forecasts. If dangerous conditions are predicted, updates will be provided by 4pm the day before the event, or as early as possible within 24 hours. As the Lake District’s weather can change rapidly, events will still proceed in rain. If conditions worsen on the day, the guide may adjust the route or, if necessary, cancel the event. In the case of cancellation, an alternative date will be offered.

### How fit do I need to be for this hike?

Both routes require a good level of fitness, as they involve steep ascents, uneven terrain, and long hours of walking. If you regularly hike for 6-10 hours and are comfortable with uphill climbs, you should be well-prepared. The Greater Grisedale Horseshoe is the harder of the two, featuring a longer distance and a more demanding scramble over Striding Edge. If you’re unsure whether this hike is right for you, feel free to get in touch for advice.

### Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are permitted on some hikes, provided they are well-behaved and kept on a lead due to livestock in the area. For information on dog-friendly routes, please get in touch via the adventuro chat below.

### What kit do I need?

You'll need to bring some essential kit to ensure you're comfortable and prepared. Compulsory items include a waterproof jacket and trousers, walking boots with suitable socks, a rucksack, warm layers, a fleece or jumper, and a hat and gloves (waterproof ones are best). You'll also need to bring food, plenty of fluids, a mobile phone, and any personal medication. Recommended extras include walking poles, sun cream, midge spray, gaiters, and a sit mat for added comfort.

### What time do we set off, and when will we finish?

The Greater Grisedale Horseshoe starts at 7:30am and usually finishes around 4:30pm, while the Glenridding Circuit starts at 8:00am and finishes around 3:00pm. Finish times are approximate and depend on weather conditions, group pace, and other factors.
