Over the course of two days, they'll improve their ability to rig a boat, understand sailing theory, and practise launching and recovery. The course will cover techniques for sailing in moderate conditions, and the goal is for participants to demonstrate their ability to sail a dinghy on all points of sail or around a triangle. With professional instruction from qualified, DBS-checked instructors, your child will learn how to confidently sail a dinghy, recover from a capsize, and handle different sailing situations. Parents can watch from the Boat Shack Cafe or terrace while their child takes part in the course, or you can drop off and pick up in the afternoon. Location The course takes place at Aztec Adventure Upton Warren, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Worcestershire. The location is easily accessible and offers a great setting for water-based activities. With ample parking available on-site and an additional overflow car park at Webb’s Garden Centre, access is straightforward. The venue also provides bicycle racks for those arriving by bike. Prerequisites Participants must have previous sailing experience equivalent to the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme's Start Sailing Stage 2. This ensures they have the basic sailing skills necessary to progress to Stage 3. Children should also be water confident and able to swim, as the course involves time on the water. ### Do children need to have prior sailing experience to join?

Yes, participants must have sailing experience equivalent to the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme’s Start Sailing Stage 2. This ensures they have basic sailing skills such as rigging and understanding points of sail, which will allow them to progress to Stage 3.

### What should my child bring to the course?

Children should bring weather-appropriate clothing for outdoor water conditions, including a suitable non-slip water footwear for the boat. A packed lunch and a refillable water bottle are also required as lunch is not provided.

### Can parents watch the course?

Yes, parents and spectators are welcome to watch their child’s session from the Boat Shack Cafe or the terrace. However, for safety and comfort, we ask that spectator numbers be kept to a minimum.

### How are the groups organised?

Group sizes are kept small, with a maximum of 6 participants per instructor and no more than 6 people in total. This setup allows for close guidance throughout the session, ensures plenty of hands-on time in the craft, and makes it easier to practise manoeuvres safely under supervision.

### What is the required swimming ability for this course?

### What happens if it rains during my session?

Rain does not affect your session; you will still be able to take part. Since you will get wet anyway, it can even be more fun in the rain! If the weather becomes unsafe, such as lightning or thunder, the session will pause until conditions improve. You’ll be given options to rebook or request a refund if a session is cancelled. Should Aztec Adventure Ltd, for reasons beyond their control (including high winds, lightning storms and icy conditions*), feel it is necessary to close the activity once your party have already commenced participation, you will be offered alternative activities, times or dates to return within one year and rescheduled free of charge. Alternatively, you may opt to receive a gift card for the full value of your booking, which can be used to rebook at a date and time that suits your group within 12 months. In such circumstances, you will not be entitled to a refund, in part or whole. *In all other weather conditions, we operate as normal and standard conditions apply.
