Prior to assessment all candidates must register with British Canoeing. The cost of registration is £40.56 and includes certification. Full National Association Membership. Location: This courses will take place in Cumbria. For the majority of our courses the meeting points / venues will vary depending on weather conditions and water levels. The most commonly used lakes are Ullswater, Derwentwater and Windermere and the most commonly used rivers are Eden, Leven and Lune. Favourite spots would include Glenridding at the southend of Ullswater, the river Eden north of Penrith, Middle Derwent near Keswick, Lune near Kirkby Lonsdale, Kent through Kendal and the Leven near Newby Bridge. Why do this course: Paddlesport Touring Leaders are certified to guide participants on: Open water journeys up to 500m from the shore. In conditions with winds up to force 4 (less than 18mph). Slow-moving rivers up to grade 1, including occasional short grade 2 rapids and simple, safe weirs. Areas with tidal movement up to 0.5 knots. This certification encompasses all open water in the Lake District under suitable wind conditions and most open waters in England and Wales.
