The day will be tailored to you and your experience level.

These days take place in and around the Lake District National Park (venue depends on weather. We meet at our climbing centre, KendalWall (with easy access from the M6 and just a short walk from Kendal train station) before heading on to the crag!

Frequently Asked Questions

There are no prerequisites for this Outdoor Adventure Day. If you have an interest in getting outdoors and trying something new, we can adapt this experience to suit your abilities. It is suitable for aged 14+, with a parent/guardian supervising to every two children.

Top-roped climbing is a relatively safe activity (safer than horse riding or rugby). However, all adventure spots come with their risks. You will have a safety briefing and we use top-notch safety equipment to minimise the risks involved.

We recommend sports casual wear. No specialist outdoor clothing is required, but you should be able to move freely. As the weather can change rapidly, plenty of layers to adapt, and a weatherproof jacket and spare set of trousers/leggings will be useful. Trainers are fine or light boots.

Please bring sufficient food and snacks for the day, plenty to drink and some sunscreen. We recommend a shoulder bag/rucksack to carry your things.

We will provide all the essential equipment that you need, including all safety equipment.

We have a strong challenge by choice ethos, you will not be pushed to do things you may not want to, or find too challenging. We will of course gently encourage you to challenge yourself, but we will never force you to do something you are uncomfortable with.

Rock climbing can be achieved by most able-bodied individuals. Bouldering will be best suited to those with some regular sporting activity. However, you don’t need to be an Olympian!

In the event of bad weather, we have a large selection of locations giving us the best chance of finding dry rock, in very bad weather an indoor option or alternative activity will be offered.

Unfortunately not. Some dogs get agitated, distract from activity, and livestock may be present, so we don’t allow dogs to join.

Unfortunately not, we cannot extend our care to non-participants. However, we would love for your friends to join in the adventure!

The day runs from 9-5pm so if you don’t live locally you may wish to make the most of being in the gorgeous Lake District. We don’t offer accommodation, but here are some ideas for you:

  • Camping – There are several campsites for vans/ tents and even glamping pods in and around Kendal.
  • Budget – There are hostels such as Kendal Hostel or the usual chains such as Travelodge and Premier Inn.
  • Beyond – There are a wide variety of B&B’s and self catering accommodation and hotels to suit.

Visit Cumbria, Cumbria Tourism or Visit Kendal websites are a good starting point to find yourself somewhere to stay nearby.

If you are unsure, we are happy to help!

We will meet at our Kendal base – you will be sent the full address when you book.

Here’s how to get there:

  • Train – We are a 20-minute walk from Kendal Rail Station. Frequent mainline trains run direct from London to Oxenholme where you can change for Kendal, just 1 stop along.
  • Bus – We are a 20-minute walk from Kendal Bus Station.
  • Car – Free car parking is available at our centre.
