## What’s included / kit / extras (plain text excerpts)

### Highlights
Gwithian Towans is a long sandy beach where a two-hour group lesson takes you from a brief on the sand into white water you can stand in. Groups stay at eight, so the coach can still talk you through paddle, pop-up and where to sit. Boards and wetsuits are included, and you can keep the kit for an extra hour afterwards if you want more time on the same peak. 📋 Key Details Duration: About 2 hours, plus an extra hour of kit if you want it Meeting point: Sunset Surf Cafe, 10 Gwithian Towans, Hayle, TR27 5BT Minimum age: 8 years Group: Maximum 8 people Kit: Surfboard, wetsuit, rash vest and boots if needed 🏄 Key Skills Beach safety and how this bay is working Paddling and sitting the board in the right place The pop-up on a soft-top Catching white water in water you can stand in Moving onto unbroken waves if you are already standing 👀 What to Expect Check in at the cafe above the beach, change, then gather for a brief on hazards, paddling and the pop-up. The rest of the two hours is in the water, with the coach next to you while you catch white water. If you have already stood up, say so at the start so the session is not a first-stand script. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Changing rooms, toilets and lockers sit next to the meeting point. After the lesson you can keep the board and suit for another hour and practise without a coach. If Gwithian is flat or closed, we move the lesson to a safer beach within about 30 minutes and send you the new meeting point. 📍 Location Gwithian sits on the north coast near Hayle, a wide sandy beach with space for learners and people who already ride white water. The meeting point is Sunset Surf Cafe at 10 Gwithian Towans, TR27 5BT, a short walk down to the sand. Car parking is on the Towans. If the beach is not usable on the day, we pick another north-coast spot and confirm it by message the day before or that morning. Toilets and a cafe sit at the top of the beach. ✅ Prerequisites No surfing experience is needed. You do need to be happy swimming about 25 metres in the sea. Children from 8 can join a group lesson. Anyone under 8 needs a private booking, or an adult in the water with them if we agree it in advance. Bring swimwear, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. Your own full-length wetsuit is fine. Leave bags in a locker or the car. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach. ⭐ Why Choose Us Chris has coached on this stretch of coast for more than 20 years and used to head the British surf team. Every coach hol…

## FAQs

### How long is the lesson?

The booking is two hours from the meeting point and back, with a brief on the sand and the rest in the water. Most of that time is spent catching white water rather than standing on the beach. Please arrive 15 minutes early so changing does not eat into the water time. After the lesson you can keep the board and suit for another hour if you want to practise on your own.

### Where do we meet and park?

Meet at Sunset Surf Cafe, 10 Gwithian Towans, Hayle, TR27 5BT. Park on the Towans and walk to the cafe above the beach. Changing rooms, toilets and lockers are there. If Gwithian is not usable, we send a new meeting point for a beach within about 30 minutes. Check your messages the evening before and again that morning.

### What kit is included?

A surfboard, a wetsuit, a rash vest and boots when the water is cold. You can wear your own full-length suit if you prefer. We match the board to your weight and how the bay is working. After the two hours you can keep that kit for another hour. Hire after the lesson is unguided, so only add it if you are happy picking a peak without a coach next to you.

### Do I need surfing experience?

No. This slot is for first-timers and for people who already stand up and want more time on white water or a first go at unbroken waves. Tell the coach at the start so the drills match what you can already do. If you want the coach to yourself, book a private lesson on the same beach instead of this group slot.

### What is the minimum age?

Eight for a group lesson. Anyone under 18 needs an adult on the beach for the whole session, even if that adult is not in the water. Children from five can book a private lesson. Younger children aged four to seven have a shorter Young Guns slot of their own. Ask if you have a mixed family and we will point you at the right booking.

### What if the weather is poor?

Rain and wind alone do not stop a lesson. Wetsuits stay warm, and the brief still happens on the sand. We cancel or move when the swell or wind makes the beach unsafe, or if we cannot run a useful session. If Gwithian is closed or flat, we move within about 30 minutes and message you. If we have to cancel, we rearrange. Message us the day before if you are driving a long way.

### What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, warm dry clothes and sunscreen. A water bottle helps. Get changed into swimwear before you arrive if you want to skip the queue at the changing rooms. Leave phones and bags in a locker or the car. If you need an inhaler or other medication in the water, give it to the coach.

### How many people will be in the group?

Up to eight. That keeps the coach close enough to give you cues between waves. Solo bookers join the same group as other people who booked the same slot. Larger groups should book a private lesson so we can put more coaches on the beach. Ask when you book rather than turning up with extra people.

### Can I wear my own wetsuit?

Yes, as long as it is a full-length suit. Shorties are better kept for paddleboarding, not this lesson. We still have suits if yours is thin or you change your mind. Boots are useful from autumn through spring. We supply them when the water is cold. Flip-flops are fine for the walk down in summer, then come off for the water.

### Can I book more than one lesson?

Yes. Add a two, four, six or eight lesson package when you book if you want several sessions at a lower add-on rate. Pick the first date in the diary; we agree the others with you. Packages are for the same beach and the same kind of group lesson. If you later want a private hour, say so and we will look at that separately.
