Applying the Z-pulley system for rescuing a fallen climber Recognising crevasse danger zones and preventing accidents Gaining practical experience through real-world simulations and rescue scenarios Itinerary The course begins with a personal kit check and a discussion of your group’s goals. You’ll quickly move into learning rope techniques, including how to safely link up with your climbing partners to avoid crevasse falls. This section is focused on roping up properly and maintaining the correct distances between climbers. After that, you’ll be introduced to the crevasse rescue kit, where we will walk through the components and show you when and why to use each item. The Z-pulley system, one of the most critical rescue techniques, will be demonstrated and practised. You’ll be guided through a dry run to break down the steps for lifting a fallen climber and gain confidence in the process. As the day progresses, you will participate in practical training scenarios that simulate crevasse accidents, giving you the experience needed to react quickly and efficiently in a real emergency. If conditions allow, we will finish with a live simulation to fully integrate everything you’ve learned. We also usually run this with a half days 'fixed lining' course to make a full day out of it. ## FAQs

### How long is the course?

The course is available in both half-day and full-day formats, depending on your preference and availability. For the half-day option, you’ll spend either the morning or afternoon practising techniques, while the full day allows for a more thorough exploration of crevasse rescue methods and the opportunity for additional hands-on training. To book a half day, please contact us via the adventuro chat below.

### Do we need snow for the course to run?

No, snow is not required for this course to take place. In fact, we find that practising the techniques on dry land often leads to better learning outcomes, as it eliminates issues like cold and fatigue that can arise in snowy conditions. We’ll explain how the skills transfer to snowy terrain, so you’ll still get a solid understanding of crevasse rescue.

### When do your courses run?

Courses can be scheduled at a time that suits you. We offer flexibility in terms of dates, so you can choose a time that works best for your schedule. Simply use the booking form below to arrange a time that fits with your availability.

### Do I need to bring my own equipment?

We provide all necessary equipment, including harnesses, helmets, and other hardware for the rescue training. However, if you already have personal gear you prefer to use, feel free to bring it along. If you’re unsure about what to bring, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask—we’ll be happy to advise. A micro Traxion and any other personal climbing kit is useful.

### What if I’m a complete beginner with ropes and knots?

That’s not a problem! The course is designed to be accessible for all skill levels, from complete beginners to more experienced climbers. We break down all techniques into simple steps, so there’s no need to worry if you’re new to rope work. We use tried-and-tested methods to ensure that everyone can follow along and learn at their own pace.

### How many people can join the course?

The course is run in small groups of 1-4 people, ensuring you receive plenty of one-on-one attention and guidance. This small group size also enhances safety and ensures that everyone can actively participate in the training exercises.
