## FAQs

### What is SUP / Paddleboarding?

SUP stands for Stand Up Paddleboarding, one of the fastest-growing water sports in the UK. It involves standing on a specially designed board and using a paddle to move through the water. It’s a full-body workout and easy to learn, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

### I'm not a strong swimmer. Will I be OK?

Everyone wears a buoyancy aid during the lesson, and we cover all safety aspects before getting on the water. Before your session, you'll also receive a questionnaire where we ask about your swimming ability.

### My balance is awful. I won’t be able to stand!

Standing on a paddleboard uses different muscles than you might expect. We break it down into simple steps to help you get comfortable, and most people are standing by the end of their first lesson.

### Where do we meet?

We meet at Canal Fields in Berkhamsted (HP4 1HR), just off Broadwater. Follow the lane all the way around to the free car park (4-hour limit), and you’ll find us there.

### What if it’s raining or the weather is bad?

We stay in contact before your lesson to update you on the conditions. Light rain doesn’t stop us – it’s a water sport after all! If the weather is too rough, we’ll arrange another date or offer the option to cancel.

### How long does it take to learn SUP?

By the end of your first lesson, our goal is to have you standing on your board and understanding the basics. We also offer one-to-one sessions for those wanting to build on their skills, which you can find below. Paddleboarding is quick to pick up, so you’ll be gliding along in no time!

### Do I need a licence to paddle?

If you’re taking a lesson with us, you’ll be covered under our licence and insurance. If you plan to paddle independently, you’ll need a water licence. The easiest way to get one is by joining British Canoeing with their ‘On the Water’ membership, which grants access to 80% of UK waterways and includes board and paddle insurance.

### Do you supply wetsuits?

No, we don’t provide wetsuits as they’re not usually needed for paddling on the canal. We recommend wearing a swimming costume with a t-shirt and shorts, plus water shoes if you have them or an old pair of trainers.

### Can I change anywhere?

There are limited changing facilities nearby, so we ask participants to arrive wearing the clothes they plan to paddle in.
