### Highlights
Step into the woods and learn how to sling axes and shoot arrows like you were born to do it. This 2.5-hour session mixes the focus of archery with the thrill of axe throwing—all in a peaceful woodland spot just outside Dorchester. Whether you’re competitive or just curious, it’s a brilliant way to switch off and try something a bit different. Key Details Group size: 1–13 people Duration: 2.5 hours Location: Tolpuddle Ball, Dorchester, Dorset DT2 7HB Minimum age: 12+ (Under 12s can take part in archery only) What to Expect Once you’ve been shown the ropes, it’s over to you. You’ll have full access to both the axe throwing and archery ranges for the entire session, with instructors on hand to offer guidance as needed. Try out their specially designed ‘angel’ throwing axes, made locally and built for balance—ideal for first timers and great fun once you get the hang of it. Learn how to line up a throw, adjust your stance, and hit the target (hopefully more than once). Over at the archery range, you’ll work on technique, distance and accuracy through a series of light challenges and friendly competitions. Shoot for balloons, go head-to-head in a team match, or just practise and improve your aim. Everyone stays active the whole time—no long queues or waiting turns—and younger members of the group (aged 6–11) can continue on the archery range while the older ones get stuck into both activities nearby. Location You’ll find this session hidden away in a private woodland near Tolpuddle, not far from Dorchester. It’s quiet, rustic and tucked into the trees, giving you a real sense of escape without being far from town. The ranges are purpose-built into the setting, making it feel authentic and natural—like something out of a medieval camp (minus the chainmail). Free parking is available on-site, and it’s a short walk through the woods to reach the activity area. The ground is a little uneven in places, so dress accordingly and let us know in advance if anyone in your group has mobility needs. Detailed directions and a Google Maps link will be included in your confirmation email to make the journey easy. Prerequisites No experience is necessary—this session is aimed at beginners as much as those with a bit of know-how already. Instructors are on hand throughout to support you, offer coaching and make sure everything runs smoothly. It’s a laid-back, flexible format, so you can learn at your own pace or get competitive if the mood takes you. Participants must be aged…

## FAQs

### What can we expect from a session?

Sessions are carefully structured to give you the best balance of hands-on activity, skill development and enjoyment. With small group ratios and longer durations than typical commercial centres, there’s plenty of time to practise and get immersed in each activity. You’ll be guided by friendly, highly qualified instructors who tailor their coaching to your ability and aim to make sure everyone feels confident and engaged. We only use high quality, well-maintained equipment and run our sessions from woodland bases that are designed to feel natural and authentic. Far from a typical set-up, you’ll be spending your time in a quiet, rustic woodland range that many guests have described as a “Robin Hood’s camp.” This setting, combined with the relaxed but professional instruction, makes the whole experience feel unique and memorable.

### What do I need to bring with me?

All technical equipment is provided, so you only need to focus on dressing appropriately for the weather. Comfortable outdoor clothing is best, with waterproofs or spare layers in colder or wetter conditions, and suncream and hats during the warmer months. Closed-toe footwear is required—trainers are fine. You'll be outdoors the whole time, so it’s important to come prepared for the forecast. We also recommend bringing any snacks or drinks you might want, as well as any personal medication you may need. Sessions go ahead in most weather conditions, and being prepared helps you enjoy the full experience. There are no shops or facilities on site, so it’s best to arrive ready and self-sufficient.

### Can I bring my dog?

Yes, dogs are welcome on site, provided they’re well-behaved and kept on a lead at all times. The woodland setting is home to deer, rabbits and pheasants, so it’s essential for your dog to remain under control. If they’re calm and used to being around people, they’re free to stay with you during the activities. Water bowls and shaded spots are available to keep them comfortable while you take part. It’s worth bringing your own poo bags and making sure your dog is happy being in a slightly noisier setting during axe throwing or crossbow use. For many visitors, bringing the dog along adds to the experience of being outdoors as a family.

### What happens if it rains?

Sessions continue in most weather conditions, and the woodland setting actually makes the experience feel even more immersive when it's wet. Light rain rarely impacts the session itself, and many people find it adds to the atmosphere—especially in the woods. All our equipment is suitable for outdoor use, and instructors are well prepared to adapt if the weather changes during your visit. That said, we do recommend dressing appropriately for the forecast. Waterproof jackets, spare layers and suitable footwear make all the difference in keeping you comfortable. If it’s looking particularly wet, a hat or hood can be useful, and bringing a spare top to change into afterwards is never a bad idea. We’ll always aim to deliver a fun and rewarding session regardless of the weather.

### Do I need previous experience?

Not at all. Most people who attend have never done archery, axe throwing or crossbow before, so sessions are designed with beginners in mind. You'll receive step-by-step guidance throughout and plenty of time to practise, making it easy to get the hang of each activity at your own pace. If you do have experience, your instructor will adjust the level of challenge and give you tips to refine your technique. It’s a flexible and supportive set-up that allows each participant to progress regardless of their starting point. Whether it’s your first time or your tenth, there’s always something to take away from the session.

### Can I bring my own equipment?

We provide everything you’ll need, but if you have your own recurve bow, you’re welcome to bring it—just check in with us ahead of time. We generally accept bows with a draw weight under 30 lbs to keep things safe and consistent with the group. All personal equipment will need to be approved on arrival. Please don’t bring your own axes or crossbows under any circumstances. These are high-risk items and must be carefully controlled during sessions. We use professional-grade equipment that’s maintained to a high standard, and all handling is supervised by our instructors to ensure safety for everyone on site.

### Do under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult?

Yes, we do require that under 18s are accompanied by a participating adult. This is to help with practical aspects of the session, such as loading crossbows correctly or offering support during archery. It also ensures that younger participants have an adult nearby in case of any issues. For younger children, particularly under 12s, adult supervision is essential—even during archery-only sessions. Some elements of the activities require a level of physical ability or coordination that may need a helping hand. Having an adult involved helps the session run more smoothly and safely for everyone.

### Can you accommodate people with disabilities or additional needs?

We have an inclusive approach and always aim to support people with physical disabilities or special educational needs. The best thing to do is contact us ahead of time so we can talk through what adjustments may be helpful to make your experience enjoyable and accessible. Depending on the activity and individual requirements, we may be able to modify the session, adapt equipment, or provide additional support. We’re happy to tailor things where needed, and our team are experienced in creating a safe and encouraging environment for a wide range of participants.

### Will we have the session to ourselves?

If you book 12 or more places, the session will be private and just for your group. You’ll have exclusive use of the ranges and full attention from the instructors. This is ideal for families, birthday groups, or team outings looking for a more personal and flexible experience. For smaller bookings, the session may be shared with other individuals or small groups. That said, group sizes are always kept low to maintain quality and make sure everyone gets time and support. If you’d prefer a fully private session for fewer people, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can arrange.

### We have a large group but only see 13 spaces online?

Our online booking system limits 'open' sessions to 13 people to keep things manageable when groups are mixed. However, for private or single-group bookings, we can accommodate more than this. There’s no fixed upper limit as long as we’re able to staff and prepare the session properly. If your group is larger than 12 and you’d like to keep everyone together, just drop us a message via the adventuro chat below. We’ll discuss your needs and create a session that suits your group’s size, ability and preferences.

### We’re a mixed group of ages and abilities—is that OK?

Absolutely. Sessions are designed to be inclusive and flexible, and we regularly run events for mixed-age families and friend groups. We’ve hosted groups ranging in age from toddlers to grandparents, and we adjust the pace and style of coaching to suit everyone. Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning after a break, or have some experience, we aim to make the session enjoyable and engaging for all. Everyone is encouraged to take part at their own level, and our instructors are skilled at adapting the format to keep it fun, safe and inclusive.

### Do we need to arrive early?

Yes—please plan to arrive around 15 minutes before your session start time. This gives you time to check in, walk to the activity area and settle in before the session begins. The ranges are up to a 5-minute walk from the car park depending on the location, and it’s important that we start on time. At the New Forest site, you’ll travel along small country roads that may include tractors or the occasional donkey crossing—so it’s worth allowing a little extra travel time. Late arrivals are treated as cancellations and are non-refundable, so do plan ahead to avoid disappointment.

### Is parking available?

Yes, there’s free on-site parking at both our New Forest and Dorset locations. At the New Forest, the car park is accessed via a narrow gravel track which may not be suitable for large motorhomes, though minibuses are fine. From there, it’s a short uphill walk—around 3 minutes—to reach the woodland ranges. In Dorset, the car park is more easily accessed and is less than a minute’s walk from the activity area. If you or someone in your group has mobility concerns, especially for the New Forest location, we recommend giving us a call in advance so we can advise or make arrangements where needed.
