## FAQs

### Can under 18's attend?

We recommend a minimum age of 18, or 14 if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Anyone under the age of 18 must share a canoe with their parent or guardian.

### Do I need previous canoeing experience to join this trip?

Yes, this trip is designed for intermediate paddlers. You should have prior canoeing experience and be comfortable handling a canoe in various water conditions, including open lochs and rivers. If you’ve paddled the Great Glen before, this trip allows for more challenging routes and advanced exploration.

### What happens if my canoe capsizes?

While capsizing is unlikely, it’s possible. If it happens, your guide will assist in emptying the canoe and getting you back on track. You’ll be wearing a buoyancy aid at all times, so swimming ability isn’t required, but some water confidence is essential.

### How physically demanding is the trip?

The trip requires a moderate level of fitness. You’ll paddle for several hours each day across lochs, rivers, and canals, and conditions can vary depending on the weather. There are also some portages, though the River Oich allows us to skip two major ones.

### Can I bring my own equipment?

Yes, if you have your own safety equipment (e.g., buoyancy aid), it must be CE-marked, under five years old, and fit for use. However, the guides provide high-quality equipment to ensure a comfortable and safe experience, so bringing your own gear is not necessary.

### What kind of wildlife might I see?

You might spot a variety of wildlife, including eagles, ospreys, wild goats, and deer. While paddling Loch Ness, keep an eye out for seals (yes we have seem some!!) and perhaps even a glimpse of Nessie! The remote campsites also offer great opportunities for wildlife sightings.
