Frequently Asked Questions

You will receive confirmation of your booking via email, and be able to speak directly to the centre via an online chat in case you have any further questions/requests.

There’s no need for any specific attire for your canoe rental. However, we recommend dressing according to the weather conditions on your session day, taking into account factors such as wind and rain.

A change of light clothes or a jumper might come in handy after you’ve finished exercising. However, please note that we don’t provide dry bags.

What to Bring:

  • A light windproof or waterproof jacket, or a spare top for colder conditions
  • A cosy jumper or top to put on after your exercise to stay warm
  • Sunscreen and a sun hat for protection against the sun
  • A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated
  • Snacks or a picnic to enjoy during your canoe ride

For Colder Weather:

  • A windproof or waterproof light jacket for protection against the elements
  • A thermal top for added warmth
  • We strongly recommend wearing light thermal clothing and a wooly hat during colder weather, as significant amounts of heat are lost through the head
  • Spare clothes and a warm jumper or cozy top are essential to stay warm after exercising during winter.

Canoes can take a lot of weight and you can take your bag with you. However, you can leave some belongings on site if you wish. We do not have lockers on site but personal belongings in a bag/rucksack can be left in the equipment cages on site. Make sure you do not leave loose items – it’s best to put them in one or two bags.

We have never had anything go missing, but please avoid bringing valuables (or take them in a drybag) as the cages are shared by staff and all customers.

We highly recommend cycling to the site. There are cycle stands nearby. Bring a lock with you. Folded Brompton bikes can be left in the equipment cages.

Certainly, we love having our four-legged friends join us for a canoe adventure! If you have a small dog that you’d like to bring along, we’re more than happy to welcome them on board. However, there are a few things you might want to consider to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for both you and your furry pal.

You know your dog better than anyone, so it’s important to think about how they might behave in a canoe. While it’s a whole new exciting world for them, any incidents involving your pet will be your responsibility, so keeping them under close control is essential.

We recommend having a buoyancy aid for your dog, equipped with a top handle, or at least a heavy-duty harness with a top handle. This will allow you to pull them out in an emergency if needed. Please make sure not to pull them by their collars when they’re swimming, as this can be harmful.

Dogs are naturally curious, and your furry friend might want to lean out of the canoe or even jump out! It’s good to be aware that this can make the canoe unstable and may lead to dangerous situations for both you and your pet. The banks along the canal are high, and motorised traffic might be present, so it’s best to be cautious.

Any questions, just ask!

Children as young as 5 will be able to fit into our smallest buoyancy aids. Remember for younger children you will be paddling for them so you must be able to paddle a canoe solo to be able to take them without another adult or older child.

Paddington Basin is easy to access by public transport, on foot or bike. We are right by the Rolling Bridge.

We would love it if you chose to cycle or walk as these are the best options for the environment, but here are all of your options to choose from:

  • Train: Paddington Station is only a few minutes walk from the Basin. The nearest London Underground stations are Edgware Road and Paddington, the latter also being served by National Rail. You can check train times and destinations on the National Rail Enquiries website.  From the main station facing the canal entrance, turn right and follow the canal. Cross the first bridge and continue along the canal heading east. You’ll see our canoes and SUP storage units on your left by the Rolling Bridge.
  • Bus: There a a number of buses going to and from Paddington. For routes and times please visit the Transport for London website.
  • Cycling: The best way to reach Paddington is by bike and there is secure parking right next to the barge.
  • Parking: Street parking may be available on North Wharf Road.
