Our two-day adventure will commence at Cardrona, where a car park just before the hotel on the left will serve as the meeting and launch site. Once you’ve been equipped with all the necessary gear and a brief orientation, you’ll set off on your canoes, gently paddling down the River Tweed. Expect the day’s paddle to last around 4-5 hours.

As you navigate the calm currents, the river will guide you through a variety of stunning scenes that showcase the rich tapestry of the Borders. You will be enveloped by the lush greenery of the rolling hills and woodlands that hug the riverbanks. The gentle pace of your canoe allows for an immersive experience; you’ll have the time to appreciate the intricate details of the environment, from the dappled sunlight through the leaves to the soft rustling of wildlife.

Keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls this region home. You might catch glimpses of otters playfully diving in the water, herons standing tall at the water’s edge, and ospreys soaring overhead in search of a catch. The banks of the river are also a wildflower enthusiast’s delight, with an array of species that may include the vibrant blooms of foxgloves or the delicate petals of wild roses during the right season.

The River Tweed itself is steeped in history, being an integral part of the textile heritage of the area. You’ll paddle past ancient ruins, peering out from the foliage, and stately homes that stand as a testament to the area’s rich past.

Throughout the canoe trip, you will be accompanied by experienced guides who will ensure your safety and provide insight into the river’s ecosystem, history, and the various points of interest.

The trip concludes in Ashstiel.

Post-paddle, we’ll retreat to a charming old forest campsite, complete with a fire pit and a teepee tent for each group, ensuring a cosy, communal slumber beneath the stars.

  • Starting Point: Cardrona Car Park (just before the hotel on the left).
  • Camping: Secluded forest campsite in Glenkinnon – we’ll send you the precise location upon booking.

Participants should be at least 18 years old and in a fit condition to paddle and camp. No prior canoeing experience is required.

Generally, two people would normally share a boat.

We will always try to give as much notice as possible if an activity can’t go ahead. It could be the river is too high for canoeing or we are expecting weather warnings for wind. Sometimes things are out of our control and we may have to cancel with very short notice. In all cases, we will try to offer an alternative activity or location. In the event of a canceled activity by us, you will be refunded if we cannot find a suitable alternative date/time/activity for your group.

However, it’s worth saying that we will only cancel in the event that it is unsafe to paddle. A bit of drizzle won’t stop us! Please assume the trip is going ahead unless we contact you to say otherwise. The vast majority of our trips go ahead as planned, come rain or shine!
