### Highlights
Learn the fundamentals of outdoor rock climbing in Scotland with expert instruction. Whether you’re new to climbing or transitioning from indoor walls, this session will teach you essential techniques, from belaying to abseiling. Enjoy a full day at the crag, developing skills in a friendly and supportive environment. Key Details Duration: 9 AM to 5 PM Location: A Scottish climbing crag (varies depending on conditions) Group Size: Up to 25 participants Key Skills Correctly fitting and using climbing equipment Tying essential knots for climbing and abseiling Belaying safely with different devices Understanding climbing routes and reading the rock Developing balance, movement, and confidence on the wall Itinerary On arrival, you'll meet your instructor and fellow climbers before going over the day's plan. We’ll start with a short warm-up and a gear introduction, making sure everyone is comfortable with the equipment. You’ll learn the basics of tying knots, belaying, and using climbing holds before moving on to your first climbs. Throughout the morning, we’ll focus on top-rope climbing, gradually increasing the difficulty as your confidence grows. Your instructor will offer personalised coaching to help improve technique, conserve energy, and understand how to approach different types of routes. Around midday, we’ll take a break for lunch and a chance to rest before continuing with more climbing in the afternoon. After lunch, we’ll explore new routes and, if conditions allow, introduce abseiling from the top of a climb. This will give you the experience of descending safely and efficiently using a single rope. By the end of the session, you’ll have gained valuable skills and a strong foundation in outdoor climbing. For larger groups, we offer tailored sessions for school trips, corporate team-building events, and special occasions. With a 1:12 instructor-to-participant ratio and space for up to 25 people, everyone will have plenty of opportunities to climb and learn in a safe and supportive setting. Location Sessions run across Scotland’s central belt , with locations chosen based on weather and group proximity. Popular beginner-friendly spots include: Neilston Quarry – Near Glasgow, easy-access sandstone and dolerite routes. Benny Beg – Near Crieff, well-bolted limestone, great for first-timers. ## FAQs

### How fit do I need to be to take part?

You don’t need to be super fit to enjoy this session, but a basic level of fitness will help. Climbing relies more on technique and balance than pure strength, so even if you’ve never done it before, you’ll be able to get involved. If you can walk up a few flights of stairs without too much trouble, you should be fine. The session is paced to suit different abilities, with breaks throughout the day.

### Do I need any previous climbing experience?

No prior experience is required. This session is designed for complete beginners as well as those who may have climbed indoors but want to transition to real rock. We’ll cover everything from using the equipment to basic climbing techniques, making it a great introduction to outdoor climbing.

### What should I wear for the climbing session?

Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that allows you to move freely. Layers work best, as the temperature can change throughout the day. We recommend bringing a waterproof jacket in case of rain, a fleece or jumper for warmth, and comfortable shoes like trainers (climbing shoes are available to rent if needed).

### What do I need to bring with me?

Bring a waterproof jacket, a fleece or hoodie for warmth, and comfortable trainers. You should also bring lunch, snacks, and plenty of water to stay energised throughout the day. If you have your own climbing shoes, you’re welcome to bring them, but we can provide all necessary climbing equipment.

### What happens if the weather is bad?

We aim to run the session in most weather conditions, but safety is our priority. If heavy rain, high winds, or unsafe conditions make climbing impossible, we will either move to a more sheltered location or reschedule. Light rain is usually fine, and we’ll provide guidance on how to climb in different conditions.

### Can I come on my own, or do I need a group?

You’re welcome to join on your own! More participants mean a bigger discount, so bringing friends or family can help lower the cost. Use the booking form below to select the number of participants and see the available discounts.
