### Highlights
Learn to surf or sharpen your technique with expert coaching on one of North Devon’s most well-known beaches. Whether you're starting out or looking to improve, this 2.5-hour lesson offers focused instruction in a friendly, small-group setting with some of the UK’s top surf coaches. All equipment is included, and sessions are adapted to suit your ability. Key Details Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes Group size: 1-12 people, maximum 6 per instructor Minimum age: 8+ Meeting point: Baggy Lodge, Moor Lane, Croyde, EX33 1PA Equipment: Surfboard, wetsuit, boots, gloves and hood included Key Skills How to paddle and position yourself on a surfboard Understanding wave selection and beach safety Standing up and maintaining balance Turning and controlling your direction Reading ocean conditions and adapting to different waves What to Expect Lessons begin with a short beach-based briefing where you’ll meet your instructor and go through the plan for the session. Beginners will learn the fundamentals—how to lie correctly on the board, paddle efficiently, and stand up in a controlled way. The session also covers surf awareness, safety signals, and how to read conditions. If you’re more experienced, the coach will assess your level and set goals that might include improving your turning, paddling technique, or catching green waves. After the warm-up and land-based training, you'll head into the water. Thanks to the low student-to-instructor ratio, there's plenty of one-to-one feedback as you practise. Coaches are always nearby, offering advice and helping you build confidence in the surf. The beach location and coaching setup make it easy for everyone—regardless of experience—to make real progress during the session. Afterwards, you’ll return to the meeting point where hot showers and indoor changing rooms are available. Location The lessons take place at Croyde Bay, one of the most consistent surf spots on the North Devon coast. The bay offers clean, rideable waves throughout the year and is ideal for both beginner and intermediate surfers. The sandy bottom and wide open beach provide plenty of space to practise, with surf that works at all stages of the tide. The meeting point is at Baggy Lodge on Moor Lane, just a short walk from the beach itself. This location is perfectly placed for easy access to the surf and includes excellent facilities such as indoor changing rooms, hot showers, and a relaxed atmosphere before and after your lesson. Free parking is available nearb…

## FAQs

### Do you have hot showers available after the lesson?

Yes, this is one of the few places in Croyde where you'll be able to enjoy a hot shower after your session. It’s a welcome comfort, especially on colder days.

### Are there separate heated changing facilities for men and women?

Yes, heated changing areas are available and separated by gender. These are particularly appreciated by families, as they make it much easier when getting kids in and out of wetsuits.

### Can I safely store my belongings during the session?

Free lockers are provided for all participants. You’ll be able to lock away your personal items securely while you're out in the water.

### Will I be able to find a wetsuit that fits me properly?

Absolutely. There are hundreds of wetsuits on site, with at least 10 available in each size. This means you'll be kitted out with a suit that fits well and keeps you comfortable throughout your session.

### Is your coaching team experienced and well-led?

The surf coaching team is headed up by a seasoned professional with years of experience, including nearly a decade coaching for Team GB. The leadership ensures a high standard across all lessons and keeps the instruction consistent and inspiring.

### What level of fitness do I need to take part in a surf lesson?

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be reasonably fit and confident in the sea. Surfing is physically active and involves paddling, balancing, and getting up from lying to standing. If you can comfortably swim at least 25 metres and handle light exercise, you’ll be fine for a beginner lesson. If you’re unsure or have specific concerns, it’s worth letting the team know in advance so they can advise accordingly.

### What’s the difference between a beginner and intermediate session?

Beginner lessons are ideal for those who have never surfed before or have only tried it a few times. You’ll cover the basics—such as beach safety, paddling, popping up, and wave awareness—in the white water. Intermediate lessons are designed for those who are already standing and riding white water waves consistently. These sessions focus more on catching unbroken waves, refining your turns, and improving paddling technique and positioning in the line-up.
