### Highlights
Trail run one of the most iconic routes in Morocco’s High Atlas on this guided day trip from Marrakech. Starting in Imlil, you’ll run high above remote Berber villages and deep valleys, taking in wild terrain and optional summit views from over 3100m. A challenging but rewarding route with full local support and logistics taken care of. Key Details Duration: Full-day trail run Group size: 1–20 people Minimum age: 12 Start point: Marrakech (pickup included) What to Expect You’ll be collected from your accommodation in Marrakech and driven to Imlil, the well-known gateway to Morocco’s High Atlas trails. From here, the run begins with a steep ascent of the Tizi Mzik pass, offering early panoramic views. After a short descent into the valley of Tizi Oussem, the route climbs steadily on a high balcony path towards Azib Tamsoult, a remote cluster of shepherd shelters used in summer. From there, the real effort begins. The climb to the Tizi n Tziki col is tough, but an optional side-trip to the summit of Adrar Adj (3100m+) provides a worthwhile challenge and incredible views across the Imlil basin. After regrouping, the descent is sharp and technical, following singletrack trails that wind through high pasture and pine forest before reaching Aroumd village. You’ll pass the waterfalls and historic Kasbah du Toubkal before arriving back in Imlil, where transport will return you to Marrakech. This route is ideal for those wanting to prepare for Toubkal or other alpine trail runs, offering varied terrain, altitude adaptation, and full logistical support in a single, scenic day. Location This trail running experience takes place in the High Atlas Mountains, starting and ending in the village of Imlil, roughly 90 minutes from Marrakech. The route climbs through two remote mountain passes and traverses traditional Berber valleys, finishing via Aroumd village with views of Mount Toubkal and the surrounding peaks. You'll be transported to and from the trailhead, with plenty of time to take in the unique mountain landscape. Prerequisites Participants should be confident running on mountain trails and capable of handling a full day of steep ascents and descents. While previous experience at altitude is not essential, a good base level of fitness is necessary to enjoy the day. Trail shoes with grip are highly recommended, and weather-appropriate clothing is essential due to changing mountain conditions. ## FAQs

### Where is the meeting point?

The meeting point is in Marrakech, with pick-up and drop off available from your hotel.

### What is included in the service?

Our service includes: Guide Lunch Drinking water Pick-up and drop-off in Marrakech

### How difficult is the route and what fitness level is required?

This is a demanding mountain trail run that includes over 1500m of elevation gain and covers a full day on foot. The terrain ranges from dirt tracks to narrow, rocky singletrack with steep ascents and descents. It’s suitable for runners who have experience on technical trails and are comfortable with sustained uphill effort. You don’t need to be an elite runner, but you should be confident running in mountainous terrain for several hours at a time. If you're training for a mountain ultra or planning to run Mount Toubkal, this is an ideal test of fitness and pacing.

### What should I bring with me for the day?

You’ll need to bring appropriate trail running shoes with good grip, ideally ones you’ve already broken in. Clothing should be suitable for variable mountain weather – layers including a lightweight waterproof jacket are essential. A small running pack or vest is recommended for carrying extra water, snacks, a sunhat, sunscreen, a buff or hat, and a lightweight layer. While water is provided, you may want to carry extra if you know you drink a lot on the move. Trekking poles are optional but can help on the steep climbs and descents.

### Will altitude be a problem during the run?

This run reaches heights of over 3100m if the optional Adrar Adj summit is included. Most of the route stays above 2000m, which means you may feel the effects of altitude, particularly if you’ve flown in shortly before the run. Common symptoms include shortness of breath and fatigue. The pace is adjusted to allow for acclimatisation and there are regular rest points. If you're concerned, arriving in Marrakech a day or two before the trip can help. The guides are trained to monitor for signs of altitude discomfort and will adapt the route as needed.

### What happens if the weather is bad?

Mountain weather can be unpredictable, especially at higher altitudes. In the event of bad conditions, such as storms or heavy rainfall, the route may be altered for safety reasons. This could include avoiding the higher passes or skipping the summit section of Adrar Adj. If conditions are unsafe for running entirely, the trip may be postponed or cancelled with the option to rebook or receive a refund. The local guides make all weather-related decisions based on current forecasts and experience in the area.
