## FAQs

### Do I need to know how to swim to freedive?

Yes, basic swimming ability is required. However, you don't need to be an exceptional swimmer. The minimum requirement is the ability to swim 100 metres continuously or 200 metres using a mask, snorkel, and fins. While we don't teach swimming during our courses, we do provide guidance on specific freediving techniques such as streamlining and finning.

### Is there a minimum or maximum age for attending courses or training?

Participants must be 16 years or older, with parental or guardian consent for those under 18. There is no upper age limit. As long as you're in good health and can complete our medical release forms, you're welcome to join.

### Do I need previous diving or scuba diving experience to attend?

No prior experience is necessary to join our level 1 course. To see the other courses we have to offer, please scroll to the bottom of this page.

### Should I not eat before the diving session?

We recommend avoiding large meals before your course to prevent energy and oxygen being diverted to digestion, which you'll need for breath holds. However, do eat something, as low blood sugar can negatively impact your freediving performance.

### Is freediving dangerous?

Freediving, like any sport, carries risks if safety measures are not followed. It is completely safe as long as you never dive alone and have been properly trained. To ensure safety, we regularly practice rescue procedures, and all our instructors hold safety qualifications in addition to their freediving certifications. Participants must complete a medical health form to identify any conditions that could affect their safety. If any medical issues are present, a signed release from a doctor is required. Anyone in good health can safely enjoy freediving, and we are committed to teaching the sport responsibly.

### Once I complete my AIDA 1, when can I take my AIDA 2?

Once you have completed your AIDA 1 then you are able to take your AIDA 2 straight away. However we do advise you to spend some time practicing the skills learned before attempting the AIDA 2 as in order to pass the AIDA 2 you have to meet certain requirements/test. You can work on you skills at one of our training blocks which are designed for those that have completed AIDA 1 and are looking to progress.

### What do I have to do to complete my AIDA 1?

In order to become an AIDA 1 certified freediver you must attend the whole course (1 day) and show competency in understanding the basic knowledge and safety skills for freediving, including LMC and surface black out rescues. (There are no breath hold, depth, dynamic apnea or written tests for the AIDA 1)
