Sunday is spent on the Lower Tummel—an ideal warm-up with plenty of continuous grade 2/3 features to refresh your skills. Monday shifts to the Upper Tummel, where you’ll take on more technical and steeper lines. On Tuesday, we run the River Tay, offering a longer paddle with a mix of easier rapids and scenic stretches perfect for catching your breath. Wednesday brings a second run of the Upper Tummel, followed by a transfer north to Invergarry, our base for the remainder of the week. Thursday sees us paddling the River Garry, a dam-release favourite with consistent water levels and playful rapids. Friday is flexible, offering a well-earned rest day or the option to paddle the Spean Gorge or take on the more advanced Etive triple step, depending on group interest and conditions. We’ll wrap up with another Garry run on Saturday before heading home on Sunday. Throughout the trip, there’s an emphasis on both progression and enjoyment. Coaches will be on hand to support you in refining techniques, choosing lines, and building confidence across a variety of river features. Off the water, it’s a relaxed and sociable environment with time to unwind at camp, share stories, and review the day’s paddling. ## FAQs

### Do I need to be an advanced paddler to join this trip?

No, but you do need to be confident on grade 2–3 white water. This trip is aimed at intermediate paddlers who are comfortable with river features such as breaking in and out of flow, ferry gliding, and manoeuvring in moving water. You don’t need to be able to roll reliably, but you should have an effective self-rescue or swim safely in white water. The coaching team will support your progression throughout the week, but this isn’t a beginner-level trip.

### What rivers will we be paddling during the week?

We plan to paddle a range of classic dam-release rivers including the Lower and Upper Tummel, River Tay, and River Garry. There may also be opportunities to paddle the Spean Gorge and Etive triple step, depending on group ability and water levels. While the schedule is subject to change due to conditions, the itinerary is designed to maximise time on quality white water with a good balance of play and progression.

### What should I bring with me?

You’ll need your full personal paddling kit, including a suitable white water kayak, helmet, buoyancy aid, spraydeck, paddle, drysuit or wetsuit, and thermal layers. You’ll also need camping equipment such as a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and cooking gear. A detailed kit list will be sent out in advance. If you’re unsure whether your current gear is suitable, just get in touch before the trip.

### Where will we be staying and what facilities are available?

We’ll be staying at the SCA campsite in Grandtully for the first half of the week and then moving north to a campsite near Invergarry. Both locations offer basic but well-maintained facilities such as toilets, showers, and water supply. You’ll need to bring your own tent and camping gear. These sites are well-placed for river access, and evenings will be spent around camp reviewing footage, planning the next day, or relaxing with the group.

### Will there be any rest days or downtime during the week?

Yes, Friday is kept as a flexible day depending on how the group is feeling. It can be used as a rest day or as an opportunity to paddle a more challenging river like the Spean Gorge or Etive triple step. Even on paddling days, the schedule is built to allow time to relax in the evenings. You’ll have space to unwind, cook meals, and enjoy the camping atmosphere without being rushed.
