We also have straps for sale if you need. The canoe will be finished in a waterproof epoxy resin inside and out ready to paddle, however we do recommend if leaving it natural to as some point varnish over this, we dont have time to do this at the workshop so we recommend doing this It is possible to paint the canoe if you have time and the weather is kind to us on the last day as we need paint outside for the paint to dry, otherwise painting the canoe can be done at home. Absolutely! Whether you come solo or with friends and family, our workshop welcomes everyone.

### Do I need woodworking skills to participate?

No, our workshop caters to participants of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned builders.

### Is accommodation provided?

No, accommodation is not included. However, we can recommend camping and some Yurts at Great Strickland, there are also lots of campsites within walking distance.

### What happens after the workshop?

Upon completion, your canoe is yours to keep! Take it out for a paddle on Ullswater (assuming it is calm) and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

### Does it cost extra to bring friends and family to help?

No, the cost is per canoe built, not per person. Bring family and friends to help and make a holiday of it.

### Do I need any specialist equipment / clothing?

Please bring old clothing, epoxy resin won’t come out of your cloths once dry. We supply gloves for when you use the resin. We keep the workshop well ventilated. Feel free to bring your own Darth Vader style dust masks if you are worried about sawdust.

### Can I bring my own tools?

We supply all tools and equipment to build the canoes but if you have a favourite saw or plane or cordless drill, by all means bring it. We don't use any power tools such as electric sanders/jigsaws, they make too much noise, save them for the home.

### Can I bring my kids?

We are child friendly here, and many people bring their children to help build, and treat the time as a holiday. We have had plenty of canoes built by parents with their children to supervise!! However If you find you child’s attention is wavering and you are a couple one of you can always make use of the local parks, or outdoor swimming pool, or take then to the Castle. Further afield is Rheged discovery centre that has plenty to offer children. After each day, you have plenty of time to explore the Lakes. Creating your canoe is a fantastic thing to do with your child. Oh, by the way, there is an ice cream farm just up the road, well worth a visit!

### Iv never put a canoe on my car/van before can you help?

Yes we can help you strap your canoe down to your vehicle, you will need roof bars and straps, we sell cam buckle straps if you need you will need 3mt min length. We dont recommend ratchet type.
